As you all know, Justin and Sarah are going through some unimaginably tough times right now. We asked Justin what we could do to help, and he asked us if we could come help him do some fire prevention work on his property. This will let him spend more time with Susan and take one small thing off the long list of things they have on their plate.
We would like to send a work party up on May 4 to knock out as much of the work on the property that we can. I'm initially opening this up to just command staff, but may open it up to other members if we don't get enough to make this happen in one day.
We will break into groups to take care of:
- Weed Abatement (weed eater)
- Shrub and weed removal (infant pine, oak, scotch broom)
- Trimming of lower limbs of pines and oaks (pole saw work)
- Optional: log cutting (approximately 15 small logs, 2 cuts each)
- Helping move and Hauling small oak log rounds from bottom slope of property to top area of property.
It is vital that we take our time and operate safely! We don't want any injuries on any event, especially one out of the jurisdiction and on a members property. We will be operating chain saws (a.k.a. amputation devices), pole saws (head crackers), gas weed trimmers, and lifting/moving objects over uneven ground. There is a wide array of hazards that could injure us and we need to be aware of our surroundingn and operate safely.
We have the following equipment on hand that we will bring with us:
- Chain saws (gas) x 2
- Pole saw (battery) x 1
- Weed trimmer (gas) x 1
- Hard rakes/shovels x multiple
Ideally another gas weed trimmer would be good to have - apparently the weeds up there are thick and electrc trimmers just don't work well. We will load our gear into the van along with an ice chest/water/gatorade - we should have room for other equipment if we need to bring it.
If anyone knows of someone who can loan us one for that day please let us know. There will be mulitple tickets available...if you can bring a tool, choose the "Helper" ticket and the ticket for the tool you can bring.
We will all need to be in proper PPE, so please wear long pants, safety toe boots, and bring gloves. We will bring eye protection, ear protection, helmets (for those working the pole saw), and chain saw PPE.
