Operation River Safe 2024

By Sacramento CERT (other events)

Thursday, July 4 2024 7:00 AM 5:30 PM PDT

ABOUT ABOUT

Sacramento CERT will again conduct "Operation River Safe" at Tiscornia Beach at Discovery Park for the 4th of July holiday. Activities will include:

  • Public awareness notification to parents/guardians of children under 13 found in the water without a life jacket (limited patrols)
  • We will operate a life jacket sign-out station
  • We will provide first aid services as required

We need as many members as we can get to assist in the operation. We will be at Tiscornia Beach from gate opening until 7pm, with the life jacket loaner station closing at 5pm. Any CERT member can attend (Level 1-3, deployable and non-deployable), however to walk the beach on patrol you need to have completed the Flood and Swiftwater Awareness Class.

This year we will be bringing our new CCR (Command / Communications / Rehab) trailer, so set up and tear down will be MUCH, MUCH easier!

Parking is extremely limited at the site. We will secure as many spots as we can near the rest room area, but we cannot guarantee parking for any of our members. We will issue parking passes for our members so you do not need to pay to park. Be sure to present the pass to any Rangers at the gates, and make sure it is visible on your dash when you leave your car.

If you choose to attend we ask that you ensure you are able to stay for your entire shift. The AM shift will be from gate opening (0700) to 1300 and the PM shift is from 1200 to 1700. We are still waiting for confirmation on when the gate will be unlocked…once that is sent to us this notice will be updated and members who sign up will be advised.

Rob will be making chicken wings (to be ready around noon). If you would like to bring something, we will send out a potluck signup as we get closer to the event.

‘Uniform Of The Day’ will be black shorts, red CERT t-shirt, black CERT cap, and Tennis Shoes. If you don't yet have a uniform, a plain red t-shirt with your CERT vest over it will be acceptable.

NOTE: All participants must wear a PFD within 10 feet of the water. We will be bringing PFDs with us from our trailers. A mandatory safety briefing will be conducted before each shift. Radios will be issued to all members and must be worn by all members while on duty. Those wishing to do beach patrol must conduct throw bag warm-ups prior to starting your shift.

If you are interested in participating, please register as soon as possible.
