The City of Sacramento's Office of Emergency Management has asked Sacramento CERT to assist with a Drowning Awareness Event.
On May 1, SacOEM will host local media and promote water safety with demonstrations and interviews for the media. Historically Sacramento CERT has provided a Personal Floation Device (PFD) fit station, and members practicing throw bag work on the river for the media to use as a backdrop and for "B Roll" video.
With multiple drownings in Sacramento in 2024, it is even more important to make the public aware of the dangers of the American and Sacramento rivers, and to remind them of the life jacket ordinance requiring those under 13 years of age to wear a life jacket when in the water.
Members who participate in this event must have a red CERT shirt, black shorts, and CERT hat. We will have a PFD fit station set up so visual media can film/photo us properly fititng PFDs to children and adults, and some members will don PFDs, water helmets, and practice throw bags on the shore (Rob will lead those who have not used throw bags in the past).
We don't yet have a time for this event. As soon as we do we will update this listing and email those who may sign up before times are made available. In the past this has been before noon and has run for about 2 hours or so.
If you have any questions, please let us know. Thank you in advance for participating in this important event.
