Emergency Medical Responder training is designed to provide non-EMS responders including government, corporate, law enforcement, and corrections personnel with a level of training comparable to a professional Emergency Medical Responder. This course is consistent with national EMS curriculum requirements and educations standards.
This course is only available to Sacramento CERT Members. EMRs from outside agencies or regional CERT programs cannot take this course.
NOTE: SACRAMENTO CERT is shifting to an "even year" class structure. NO RENEWAL CLASSES WILL BE OFFERED ON "ODD YEARS". If your EMR is currently set to expire in 2025, you must attend your renewal in 2024.
PREREQUISITES AND REQUIREMENTS FOR CLASS:
Educational Prerequisites:
- Completion of IS-5: An Introduction to Hazardous Materials. You must submit your Certificate of Completion to Operations prior to April 19 to attend this class.
- Basic Community Emergency Response Team training.
Physical Requirements:
- Maintain immunizations in accordance with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s immunization recommendations to include:
- HEPATITIS B
- INFLUENZA
- MMR
- VARICELLA
- TDAP
- COVID-19 + boosters as recommended
Please bring evidence of your vaccination status to class on April 19th. Full vaccination panel must be complete or in process before the start of class.

This class is intended for those that have never taken EMR training or those who have expired EMR certificates. Certification is good for 2 years. Due to shipping companies removing delivery guarantees and weather issues, we cannot offer books through our ordering process. Fees are for your certification cards only - instructors donate their time.
Payment for the class MUST be made prior to 5pm on 3/16/2024. This gives us time to order the required cards from ASHI and have them delivered in time for the class.
Students are required to complete registration with the Sacramento County Emergency Medical Services Agency (SCEMSA) within 15 days of receipt of your EMR Certificate of Completion. Failure to register with SCEMSA as required will prohibit you from practicing as an EMR in Sacramento County, and will prohibit you from taking any EMR renewal courses.
No refunds are made to students who fail to complete the course or fail to successfully complete the written and/or hands-on testing.
